The Stethoscope Equity Project for Students and Healthcare Professionals with Hearing Loss
Meeting technical standards for stethoscope use is often a challenge for those with hearing loss, in part because of individual differences in hearing and technology (ex: hearing aids, cochlear implants, BAHAs). In addition, preferences may change over time, requiring a fresh look at optimal stethoscope use. Many people with hearing loss are not sure what will work best for them, and students often need assistance, which is not usually provided by medical, nursing, or other health professional schools.
It may become a long trial-and-error process, which can be frustrating and cost-prohibitive, especially for those with limited financial resources. The Stethoscope Equity Project (SEP) improves access and promotes professional success by providing consultative information and loaner digital/amplified stethoscopes so users can try them before purchasing.
How the program works
1) Fill out the enrollment form. See our comparison table for what you can trial.
2) Pay the user fee of $50 or $50, depending on what payment method you select. This fee allows you to trial up to 3 stethoscopes for two weeks at a time per stethoscope.
3) Your first stethoscope will be mailed to you, and you will have two weeks to trial it.
4) Once the stethoscope is returned to us, we will send you the next stethoscope.
5) When you have decided on the preferred stethoscope, you will purchase one on your own.
