The 2015 biennial conference in Ann Arbor was a roaring success! 150 people from all over the world attended the meeting at the Towsley Center of the University of Michigan during the three days of the conference, making it the largest AMPHL gathering to date. There were multiple exhibitors and sponsors present who interacted with participants at tables in the lobby. The conference Gold Sponsor was NTID and our Bronze sponsor was Advanced Bionics. Other sponsors included: O’Connor Hearing, Henry Ford Health System, University of Michigan Interpreting Service, ScreenLine CART, Cochlear, Holley Ear Institute, DeafCan!, White Coat Captions, SafeNClear Masks, Exceptional Nurse, and Harris Communications.
The conference continued its three-track program: there were multiple simultaneous presentations every day, and almost all the speakers were highly rated by attendees. Topics ranged from veterinary to medical topics to legal issues to health profession issues faced by practitioners with hearing loss. Unique to the Ann Arbor conference was the availability of the Clinical Simulation Unit – sessions on people with hearing loss running a Code Blue and use of various stethoscope technologies were held in the Clinical Simulation Center with high attendance and laudatory comments. In addition, dedicated time for networking was provided which enabled many participants to connect with people in their fields. Food was provided by Katherine’s Catering and the world renowned Zingerman’s deli. A voluntary group dinner on Saturday night at the local Cottage Inn was a great success.
