PHILIP ZAZOVE, M.D.
[director8@amphl.org ]
Philip is Medical Director at M Care (University of Michigan's Health
Insurance Company), and a Professor in the Department of Family
Medicine. He is board certified and his practice spans the entire range
of family practice, including office surgical procedures, except that he
recently stopped doing obstetrics. He does do newborn care, office
surgical procedures, and care of acute injuries among other things, and
has a special interest in primary care genetics.
He was born in the Chicago area a long, long time ago, with a profound bilateral non-progressive sensorineural hearing loss. He was mainstreamed (the first one to be so in the northern Chicago suburban area). Subsequently, he earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, graduated with a medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, completed his residency at the University of Utah Hospitals, and earned his Master's in Business through Northwestern University Kellogg School of Business. He published his life story in a book called, When The Phone Rings, My Bed Shakes.
Currently, Philip has been active in conducting research on health care
for Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons as well as seeing patients and
teaching medical students and residents. He's also been involved with
several other organizations serving people with disabilities and hearing
loss. Although not proficient in ASL, he does know some sign language
and uses it regularly with many patients.
