AMPHL Special Honorees are individuals who have been recognized with a plaque honoring their contributions to AMPHL:
Dr. Samuel Atcherson has cycled through many positions within the Association – Director, President, Vice-President, Webmaster, and Focus Group leader. His opinion is often sought and valued by others within the Association’s leadership. The assistive technology information Dr. Atcherson disseminates at Association conference presentations facilitates our individual success. His leadership, support, and dedication has helped the Association make wise decisions and helped facilitate our Associations’ spirit of camaraderie.
For almost ten years, Dr. Stacey Cordwell-Carroll has worked diligently and persistently to stay abreast of the long-term desire among many students and health care professionals with hearing loss for a clear surgical face mask. Such a mask would alleviate one of the major barriers of communication for this group. Over the years, she communicated and consulted with patent holders, potential manufacturers, and suppliers. Dr. Cordwell-Carroll invited vendors to display their products and innovations at almost every conference. At the 2011 conference, we had two different clear surgical face mask designs presented. We appreciate Dr. Cordwell-Carroll’s contributions and the positive work she does for health care professionals with hearing loss.
Dr. Candice Corriher was one of the six founders of the Association. She has held many positions formally within the Association such as President, Vice-President, Director, in addition to informally filling in where needed. Dr. Corriher continues to work diligently to ensure the Association’s vitality and success. She has gone above the call of duty in taking it upon herself to learn how to develop and maintain the Association’s website, which she continues to do to this day. Without her guidance, we would certainly not be where we are today with our worldwide impact.
Dr. Kim Dodge was one of the six founders of the Association and her early work in promoting the Association through panels and chairing the Association’s first conferences made a significant impact in the history of AMPHL. Dr. Dodge’s initial leadership was essential to AMPHL’s success. We appreciate her contributions and the positive work Dr. Dodge does for health care professionals with hearing loss.
Rebecca Morris has supported AMPHL for over ten years. She has worked actively to disseminate information regarding technology to assist healthcare professionals with hearing loss to be successful. She has become a very valuable resource to the Association as one of the leading experts on the use of stethoscopes with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Ms. Morris is an author of several stethoscope-related journal articles and a book “On the Job with Hearing Loss”, and her presentations at AMPHL conferences are some of the best attended. We appreciate her contributions and the positive work Ms. Morris does for health care professionals with hearing loss.
Dr. Danielle Rastetter was one of the six founders of the Association. She has held many positions formally within the Association such as President, Vice-President, Director, and Treasurer. In the early years, Dr. Rastetter established and maintained NOISE, an email listserver, which served as the first means of professional networking among healthcare practitioners and students with hearing loss. She also built and maintained its first website giving the Association its initial presence on the internet. Dr. Rastetter’s strong leadership is evident, and her clarity and tenaciousness for the vision and mission of the Association has kept it going since its inception.
Dr. Faiz Shakir developed and helped to maintain the Association’s current website, complete with the forums and an online payment system. His work has allowed our subscribership and supporters to grow in numbers and network. The online presence has given a voice and a face to the Association internationally. We appreciate Dr. Shakir’s contributions and the positive work he does for health care professionals with hearing loss.
