I am posting this again. We are very interested in having as many mentors in as many fields in as many locations in the country as possible. Please read, and then consider participating. I don't anticipate any one of us will get very many requests, and each person can decide how much they want to work with anyone who contacts them.
Thanks for considering! I hope to hear from you.
_________
Remember when you were first starting out and didn’t know who to contact
for help or with questions? You may even be at this stage now.
Hopefully, this lack of help won’t be a problem much longer. AMPHL has
decided to establish a list of mentors who would be available for anyone
- whether d/Deaf, hard of hearing or hearing - with questions about D&HH
persons in the medical arena. We plan to sort this list in two ways:
1. By medical specialty (physician, veterinarian, audiologist,
nurse, dentist, etc.)
2. By geographical area
This list will only be available to subscribers; thus there will NOT be
an avalanche of people contacting anyone on the list. Subscribers,
however, will be able to contact one or more individuals in their chosen
field or in the area where they live. The extent to which the mentor
would respond to questions, help the mentee, etc., is totally up to each
person. AMPHL's role in this is only to develop the list of mentors and
provide the contact information for these mentors to subscribers -
nothing more.
Nancy Rennert and I are coordinating the development of this list.
We’re asking for anyone who is willing to be a mentor, who is willing
to provide guidance for other people who are facing the same path each
of us did. This is a great way to potentially really help people. If
you are interested, please send me an email with your full name, medical
specialty, state you live in, and preferred method(s) of contact (I
presume email for most people but U.S. mail, telephone or other means is
fine too).
I hope you're willing to help here. Feel free to contact me if you have
any questions!
