EMILY F. CHRISTIANSEN
[ director6@amphl.org ]
Emily Christiansen hails from the tiny town of Philly - by her reaction to cold
weather, you would never know it. She is currently attending Tufts Cummings
School of Veterinary Medicine working on her DVM/MPH degree. This, of course,
will culminate as a vocation within the public health veterinary field for marine mammal
rehabilitation. Emily is a prime example of unnecessary degree attainment simply
to have letters behind her name. This allows her to sound "official" when she
decides that someone needs to take the red ball out of the dolphin pen because
it's time for them to play with a surfboard.
Emily currently sports two ITE hearing aids (since the age of 4), which can be
frustrating when they fall out into the aquarium and she has to do a foreign
body surgery on a manatee in order to hear someone yelling her name again.
Emily has a post-lingual, bilateral, severe sensorineural hearing loss, and was
raised mainstreamed throughout her education. She knows very little sign
language beyond some used to communicate with dolphins, but is trying to learn
more and get more involved in the deaf community.
