AMPHL - Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Losses

Jamie is a hospital medical officer in Victoria, Australia. She completed her primary and secondary education in Malaysia, college in Singapore, and obtained her medical degree from Adelaide (Australia) before moving to Victoria to work. She is currently undertaking a surgical year and is exploring surgery as a career. She had fluctuating hearing loss and progressive sensorineural hearing loss, using bilateral hearing aids until she received a unilateral cochlear implant at the end of 2005. She communicates orally and does not know sign language, but supplements her communication with lip-reading or assistive listening devices depending on the situation. In her free time she swims, plays badminton, basketball and the piano.

The discovery of the AMPHL just a month prior to the commencement of her medical course has introduced her to the surprising lot of assistive devices/ systems available. She would love to have the opportunity to help others, just like how people who have trodden the roads before provided immense encouragement and support.
