Email Brian at director2@amphl.org
Brian holds a Doctor of Psychology degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, Schaumburg. He is currently a clinical psychologist at the Oregon State Hospital and also works in private practice, with an emphasis on serving the deaf community, particularly in forensic issues.
Losing his hearing in late adolescence and early adulthood, Brian has learned to sign fluently in addition to maintaining his oral skills. Currently he is conducting research into seclusion and restraint rates of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in inpatient psychiatric settings. Additionally, he is active in advocacy efforts to expand the mental health services available to deaf and hard of hearing Oregonians.
Brian is involved with AMPHL because he wants to show that deaf people can do all the things hearing people can, including working in a forensic psychiatric setting, if given the chance. He would like to make the path easier for those who are interested in careers in this field by passing on his own experiences and what he has learned.
