Candie Corriher, DVM

Email Candie at president@amphl.org

Candie has a bilateral profound deafness resulting from spinal meningitis at age 5. She was raised to communicate orally and does not know sign language. She received a cochlear implant in 1997 at age 28, and had revision surgery in October 2005 with the explantation of her old cochlear implant and re-implantation with a new one. She cannot discriminate speech without lipreading, but she is thankful for what she can hear with her cochlear implant... including the sound of her cats meowing! Candie was mainstreamed in private schools prior to attending N.C. State University where she received her B.S. in Animal Science in 1991 and her D.V.M. in 1995. She has done both large and small animal veterinary work in multiple states over the years. She currently lives in Sherwood, OR and is a small animal veterinarian. Candie is a part of AMPHL because veterinary school was the toughest challenge she ever faced. She wants to encourage others following in her footsteps and she wants to share her experiences so that others can build on what she has learned.
